OU PHYSICIANS NAMES DIRECTOR OF MINIMALLY INVASIVE SURGERY Urologist Carson Wong, M.D., F.R.C.S.C, has been named director of endourologic, laparoscopic and minimally invasive surgery for OU Physicians Urology. Urology is the surgical specialty dealing with the diagnosis and treatment of diseases and disorders of the urinary tract (kidneys, bladder, prostate, urethra and ureter) and of the male reproductive organs. This includes treatment of kidney stones, urinary obstruction, impotence and urinary cancers. Laparoscopic surgery is a minimally invasive surgical technique used for diagnostic, reconstructive and cancer procedures. It has revolutionized urologic surgery. Wong is board-certified in urology by the American Board of Urology and the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. He has been credited with pioneering laparoscopic cancer and reconstructive surgical techniques and has served as course director for various urologic laparoscopy courses. In addition to laparoscopic surgery, Wong specializes in the treatment of complex urinary tract stones and the prevention of recurrent stone disease. He comes to OU Physicians from Penn State College of Medicine, Hershey, Pennsylvania. He completed a fellowship in laparoscopic, endourologic and minimally invasive surgery at the University of Miami, Florida. He completed his residency at McGill University, Montreal, Quebec, Canada. Wong is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and the Endourological Society and is a member of the American Urological Association.
