• The Sylvan N. Goldman Center, Oklahoma Blood Institute collects enough blood from Oklahomans to meet the entire need of more than 70 hospitals throughout 45 counties in the state, including all Oklahoma City hospitals.
  
• The Oklahoma Blood Institute was the first blood center in the U. S. to provide cholesterol testing as a donor benefit in 1986 and the first blood center to provide PSA (Prostate Specific Antigen) testing as a donor benefit beginning in 1995.
  
• The Oklahoma Blood Institute was the first blood center to perform the HIV Antigen test (the newest HIV test at the time) on donated blood, making OBI blood the safest blood in the nation.
  
• The Oklahoma Blood Institute is considered the most progressive blood center in the U. S. for the development and utilization of apheresis procedures. Apheresis is a give and take process which allows donors to give a specific component of their blood via a cell-separating machine while the remaining components are safely returned to the donor by the same process.
  
• The Oklahoma Blood Institute is one of the largest blood centers in the U. S., employing more than 500 people and is widely considered one of the most innovative.
